Mardi Gras debauchery just ain’t what it used to be

Black homicides making steady climb to normal

NEW ORLEANS—Many Mardi Gras revelers lament that the level of debauchery this year wasn’t what it was before Hurricane Katrina.

“Well, before the flood, the level of debauchery was much higher,” said former police officer Jack Hammond. “Lots more women are usually taking off their clothes during the weekend before Mardi Gras. "It's part of what makes the city the city," Hammond said.

Officials are hoping that despite the “act of God” that Mardi Gras will return to its previous licentious activities.
