Leader of Rolling Skating Group Instills Self-Esteem in Youth Skaters

Interview by Hakeemah Muhammad
Marci Nelson is an avid skater. Her love for skating inspired her to introduce skating to her children. She saw that children enjoy the physical and creative aspect of skating and new she had to start a group for young children. She knew that it would give feelings of belonging and accomplishment much like what attract our children to gang activity. However, she wanted to steer them in a positive direction through skating and other creative activities like dance, acting, etc.  She set out to start a group for children that would give them something positive to do while increasing their skill level and self-esteem.

What inspired you to start Xtreme Xsperience?
What inspired me to start Xtreme Xsperience……watching all the beautiful children at the different skating rinks I vested and how much talent they have.   I ask myself base on whets in the media…..we need more positive movie, programs, to show case and then Xtreme was form….  After day in and day out going through a routine of listening to the news about children being murdered and drug involvement and gangs becoming more prevalent; I decided I wanted to do something to keep my children and others away from that.  At first it started with a desire to have my children involved with other kids then I learned that so many other children wanted something more to do and in an effort to accommodate them Xtreme Xsperience gave birth.

I got a chance to visit the website, www.xtremexsperience.biz. It is awesome! I noticed on the website that you have a mission statement for Xtreme Xsperience. It is quite amazing! What is the story behind the mission statement? Why do you feel that it is important for you to have a mission statement?
The story behind the mission statement is to give children various activities to do and it don’t matter if the parents have money or not.  We want our children to learn at an early age not to engage in illegal activities and make better choice in life.   Why do you feel that it is important for you to have a mission statement? It’s important to have a mission statement to give everyone an ideal of what we are about, and our focus and goals for our children….  I feel that it’s also very important to let others know what you envision your organization to become as well.

The tagline for Xtreme Xsperience is “When you look good, you feel good!” Tell me about this tagline?
This statement goes hand in hand……If you care about and take pride in your appearance, image, you will feel better about yourself as a person and treat other with respect.

Can you talk about JB Kids? How does it relate to Xtreme Xsperience?
JB Kids is just one of the many groups that will come from Xtreme Xsperience…..Xtreme Xsperience is a platform to provide, and promote are children activities, and talent.JB Kids is a group of young people who love to skate to James Brown Music and are very talented at what they do.
What shows have Xtreme Xsperience been in this summer?
Xtreme Xsperience have been in the following shows: Let's Roll After The Last Day Of School Youth Talent Show, Palmer Park Gospel Fest, Taste of Chicago Taste of Talent, The 4th Of July Harvey Parade, Bud Billiken Parade, and the Xtreme Xsperience Back to School 1st Annually Skate Show.

Yes, I attended the Xtreme Xsperience Back to School show! It was off the chain! Tell our readers about the show.
The Back to School Show …..gives everyone a insight on the many wonderful events our children participate in this summer.  This event gives children and parents the opportunity to network with Xtreme and many other children acuities programs within the Chicago land and Suburban area.

What shows do Xtreme Xsperience have coming up that you would like to promote?
WOW …..we are working on the end of  year events and next year events now. We are planning a Celebrity Back To School Basketball Shoot Off.  This is a day for Xtreme Kids, Family and Friends to enjoy a friendly, fun filled day of Basketball with each other and with Celebrities.

Any last words for our readers?
We at would hope this concept would spread like a virus to every county, City and State throughout America.  Since the children are our future; let’s all support the efforts to help them excel anything positive that they desire to do.

Where can our readers locate Xtreme Xsperience?
We enjoy the freedom of sharing ourselves to every area that we can.  There are often really nice programs that we see the only issue is that the really nice ones are unfortunately out of reach for the average kids or family who can’t afford to participate.  We like to be reachable by any and everyone…
Email is the best way to reach us for the moment.  But we have been known to make house calls…   Smile

We can be seen every Sunday from 2PM-5PM at Lynwood Sport Center, 2030 Glenwood Dyer Road, Lynwood, IL, 60411, PH: 708.474.5900

Hip Hop Icon Snoop Dogg Brings Youth Football League to Chicago

Snoop Dogg partners with city agency to promote education through sports taking over 500 youth off the street for a day

CHICAGO, IL JULY 22, 2010 –In an effort to promote education and offer constructive alternatives for inner city youth, Hip Hop artist Snoop Dogg in partnership with Windows of Opportunity, will host the 1st Annual Snoop Youth Football League Clinic and Back to School Bash to benefit 600 kids from Chicago’s housing projects. The event takes place Friday, July 23, 2010 at an undisclosed location.

The West Coast rapper/actor will kick off plans to set up a local chapter of the Snoop Youth Football League with a free football clinic for two-hundred, 8 to 14 year-old boys from the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA). The camp is followed by a Back to School Bash, hosted by Windows of Opportunity (non- profit arm of CHA), where the rapper will give away book bags and school supplies to 600 children.

“We’re excited to bring the Snoop Youth Football League to the city of Chicago. The impact he has had on inner city youth in Los Angeles is more than commendable. He’s kept so many young people in school and out of harms way through this program. Chicago needs this,” said Tonja Styles, one of the lead organizers of the event.

The two hour clinic will be led by Snoop, his league commissioner, Haamid Wadood, team coach and current and former Chicago Bears players: line backer Brian Urlacher, corner back D.J. Moore, wide receiver Rashied Davis, running back Chester Taylor, Richard Dent and Otis Wilson. Members of the Allied Athlete Group, a national organization of professional athletes will also be on hand to support.

The camp will close with words of encouragement from Snoop about discipline, unity and teamwork. After the camp, kids will accompany Snoop to the Back to School Bash, where they will enjoy lunch, live entertainment, games, and more.

Snoop founded the league six years ago with a personal investment of $1 million dollars. Today, it boasts over 12 teams, is accredited to taking Crenshaw High School’s football team to state championship last year, and has its first set of kids going off to college this fall.

Plans are underway to have a full league in Chicago by 2011. Chicago is the first city outside of California to get a team.
