Dr. Yamma Brown is the youngest daughter of Deidre Jenkins and James Brown. Her father tried to get her to pursue music but she new there was only room in the family for one-global icon. Also, she did not want the pressure of trying to duplicate the success her father had built. Yamma pursued medical school instead and became a pharmacist, where she excelled for twelve-years in the field.
But now, she has new goals in mind. She resigned from her twelve-year career as a pharmacist where she was making six-figures annually and established Dughter of Soul Productions.
On May 12, Dr. Brown will be at the Chicago Academy of Music for its CELEBRITY "MEET & GREET" SERIES to raise awareness and funds for the academy. To learn more go to: www.chicagoacademyofmusic.org.
Dr. Brown knew after her father past it was time to move on and work on projects that would keep the James Brown legacy alive. Yamma contemplated the decision to move to Los Angeles for two-years; now at the rudiment of her journey, her new found passion to continue her father's legacy has put her in a position to walk by faith and not by sight.
She, along with other Brown family members, will be producing a bio film on James Brown and several other projects to continue the James Brown legacy.
Yamma is penning her debut book which is scheduled for release in the Spring of 2012. The book will focus on a daughter's perspective of life lessons learned growing up Brown. And yes, this is one book I'd like to read.
