“If you want to stand out in life, don’t be different, be outstanding!” says Maisha Wynn, a woman who advocates for sassy, sexy, smart, spiritual and stylish women everywhere. For Maisha, “Wynn” (her last name) and “win” is not just a coincidental homonym; along with these words sounding alike, they also mean the same thing because she is truly a winner.
By day, she’s the Regional Advertising Director for a luxury lifestyle publication, where she enjoys using “her zest for life, vivacious personality, and out-of-the-box thinking to garner new clients and nurture existing relationships,” she said.
By night, Maisha dons a new hat: master of her very own website, www.wynnwinsworld.com, where she shares her fascinating life experiences with thousands of supporters, through her personal blog. With the blog buzz and her true admiration for living, Maisha was invited to charm the radio airwaves on a weekly radio show on Chicago’s only Black-owned radio station, WVON (The Talk of Chicago). Ms. Wynn is affectionately known as the “Downtown Diva” by her listeners. Maisha stays in tune with the pulse of what’s happening around her beautiful hometown, and around the world. Here, she talks to Toure Muhammad.
What is Wynn Wins World and why are more and more people wanting to be part of your world?
I desire others to live their life to the fullest. Through Wynn Win’s World, I am able to educate and inspire others on various topics which are dear to my heart from eating healthy to the importance of looking your best.
I know more people are following my site because I challenge their thinking. I make them desire more out of life and living. Plus, it doesn't hurt when you hear friends say they hear the buzz of your name in the community. Love it!
What is your philosophy on life?
I live by the philosophy, “If you want to stand out in life, don’t be different, be outstanding!” My dedication to my family, friends and fans prove that I am a woman of my word.
Even though you went to Whitney Young and missed out on the best high school experience ever because you didn’t go to Lindblom, at least you are my Spelman sister. :-) How did your high school and college matriculation help shape your philosophy or did they?
Growing up in a household where education was key to success, I was destined to attend Whitney Young High School and Spelman College. I always had a vision of being the "BEST" because my mother told me daily that I was a star. Graduating from Whitney Young prepared me for my foundation at Spelman College where I had an opportunity to meet and connect with phenomenal women from all around the world.
You have a warm, free spirit. What is your inner most desire?
Thank you for your kind observation. It is the God within me. As a woman of God, I desire to live a life of purpose and passion. Each day, I am given air to breathe I make it my duty to continue to press forward into unknown territory in life.
Are you still detoxing? How important is physical health and how does it relate to mental and spiritual health?
No, I am not still detoxing. However, I must say it was the most rewarding experience ever. Moving forward I will do it every season. It was a time of self-discovery for me. I would advise others to detox if they are looking for clarity and peace in their life.
Why do you advocate for vacations?
Big Smile! Individuals are so driven on working hard versus working smart. Vacations are a form of refueling the mind and body which will enable one to propel higher in life and in their personal goals. I've learned the mind and body work better when they are charged with good energy.
What are your goals in the next five years?
To take over the world. I want my friends in Japan, Australia, Montreal and around the world to hear my voice and see my captivating smile. God has bestowed something great inside of me and I am working on my purpose NOW!
You are on WVON letting people share in your world. How has the response been? What time are you on the air?
The response has been overwhelming. I've gotten wonderful feedback from friends, loved ones, and fans who not only say I have the voice for radio, but a message for the masses to hear. I am on every Thursday at 9:30pm.
Tell me about your blog. What separates it from other blogs out there?
I've been coined as the lifestyle and relationship expert from my blog. I share my daily dose of real talk with a spice of inspiration. You will read everything from what every DIVA needs to have in her closet to how to put the "M" back in motivation.
