I was so pleased that our event was such a huge success!! More than 100 Black business owners, supporters and friends celebrated the 10th year anniversary of Bean Soup Times, a new media, marketing and public relations business started by Toure Muhammad with an email to 50 people in March 2001.

The event, held March 26, was also streamed live on the internet.

Bean Soup Times helps Black businesses grow and this event highlighted that commitment in an alcohol free, healthy food environment.

“We held our event at The Connection, a Black-owned event rental facility, we had our food catered by Quench’s a Black-owned restaurant chain, our cake—a giant soup bowl—was provided by Brown Sugar Bakery, the videographer and photographers were Black-owned companies and even my suit was cleaned by a Black-owned cleaners,” said Toure Muhammad.

The evening included performances from New Element, spoken word/jazz duo, Moni Rashad, a jazz/R&B singer, and author and pro golfer Robin Aikens played the violin.

The entertainment was accented with humor provided by Toure Muhammad as he showcased and recognized more than two dozen Black-owned businesses.

In attendance were Yvette Moyo-Gillard, co-founder and producer of the “Real Men Cook” Father’s Day Celebrations; Carl West, producer of The TRUTH Hip Hop/R&B Awards, Bryant Thompson, founder of Red Level Entertainment, WVON media personality Maisha Wynn; Mike House of the Ujamaa Network; businessman and author Will Horton; and Christopher and Erica Bell, of family-owned Chatham 30 minute Cleaners, and many more.

Giveaways and rewards were provided by Reggio’s Pizza, Inc., Moore Unique Skin Care, Graffiti Pizza, Zberry Frozen Yogurt & Treats, Micah Popacorn Smothers and others.

“As a follower of the Minister Farrakhan, I intend to help us pool our resources, network and spend money with each other. Tonight, our attendees were informed and inspired, our clients made sales and gained more exposure, and I made everyone laugh and smile at least once,” said Toure Muhammad.

“I sold 12 books and nine CDs,” said Moni Rashad who also debuted her new book, “How to Grow Out of the Wilderness.”

“I had such a nice time, met a lot of great people and ate some good cake,” said Kim Martinez, publisher of 1st Impressions Magazine.

Another vendor made over $100 in sales and everyone left happy!

THANK YOU!! We've Reached 1,000 Plus Page Views Twice This Month

Peace brothers and sisters!! I want to THANK YOU for helping us get back to more than 1,000 page views in one day!! For those who have been following us, up until June of 2009, we had a basic website and it's was getting more than 30,000 page views per month.

Well, we did a makeover which included us switching to a blog format. We went down to a very small amount of page views per day as we began to rebuild.

Thanks to your support, we hit more than 1,000 page views per day twice this month.

There is more yet to come. Bean Soup Times will be THE place for humor, politics and culture for our community. Stay tuned for much more as we quickly grow to 33,000 page views per day. Yes, that's right. That is a million page views per month.
