Alumni Entertainment & House Music – Over 30 Years in the Making

Much love to the Proviso Township alumni who converged on Winfield Scott Park, (19TH & Maywood Drive), Maywood, Illinois,  August 4, to begin the Alumni Old School-House Music Picnic.

“House Music” is a Chicago original – a genre of underground and club-based dance music developed in the early 1980’s,  nurtured and developed in Chicago, quickly emerged into the UK mainstream and is known all over the world.

The 1st Annual Alumni School-House Music Picnic, now dubbed “Alumni Old School Picnic” was intended to be a small gathering of friends from their old ‘hood but the small gathering quickly swelled into an event which drew roughly 500 attendees.

Guests pitched tents, setup barbeque grills and enjoyed a day filled with fun and entertainment.  The event became more of a family reunion of sorts. The Alumni credits the success of the event to their rich cultural heritage and undying allegiance to their community.

The event included a roster of 18 DJ’s from schools which make up Proviso Township, including District 209 and District 89.  Featured in this year’s DJ line-up was celebrated house music DJ and member of Chicago’s Original Hot Mix 5, Scott “Smokin’” Silz. In addition, there was live music entertainment, business vendors and the AOT (Atmosphere of Tumbling) team, all products of Proviso Township communities.

The success of the event drew the attention of several Maywood trustees, officials and business owners who encouraged the planning of future events.

Although the objective for future events is to build on previous ones, the primary focus of the event will always be a celebration of family, food, fun and unity in the community.

We invite you to visit our website: http://alumnient.wix.com/alumni-entertainment where you will find event information, videos, photos and DJ mixes.
