Urban Housecall Magazine Targets Black Community With Health And Wellness Information

Urban Housecall Magazine is a new Health and Wellness magazine targeting the health information need of the Black community. Founded by Black physicians, Urban Housecall Magazine seeks to provide relevant, up-to-date information encompassing every area of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health.

Collaborating with many Black physician specialists in various areas of healthcare, there are articles specifically addressing the healthcare needs of Black women (Urban Woman), Black men (Urban Man), and Black children (Urban Parent).

Husband and wife team, Dr. Robert C. Robinson III, MD and Karla L. Robinson, MD founded Urban Housecall Magazine in an effort to help improve the overall health in the Black community. Karla believes that Blacks are often at a disadvantage when it comes to effectively and efficiently managing their health.

She comments, "This is often due to a lack of knowledge about our bodies, lack of access to medical providers that can appreciate cultural differences as it relates to healthcare, and the fear of taking control of our own health." She believes Urban Housecall Magazine provides the tools to help Black patients become more active participants in the healthcare process.

Prior to launching Urban Housecall Magazine, Dr. Karla Robinson spent a number of years in clinical practice as a board-certified Family Physician, while Dr. Robert Robinson is a board-certified Internist working as a hospitalist physician. Their combined inpatient and outpatient medicine experience gave them the opportunity to repeatedly see Blacks disproportionately affected by what are largely preventable medical conditions.

As a result, Urban Housecall Magazine offers Health Enrichment and Lifestyle (H.E.A.L.) Plans, focusing on preventive medicine, screenings, and health maintenance. H.E.A.L.

Plans provide a comprehensive, personalized health assessment profile with recommendations for screenings for early detection of diseases, tips on health maintenance, and yearly goals for disease management and improving overall health and wellness.

In addition to health and wellness articles and comprehensive H.E.A.L. plans, Urban Housecall Magazine also offers live, interactive, online Q&A chat sessions with physicians on topics affecting the Black community the most.

You will also find sections on healthy eating with recipes (Urban Cuisine), inspirational readings (Urban Oasis), and an entire section dedicated to debunking old wives' tales and health myths (Urban Legends).
