Rapping and Breakdancing in the area where Dr. King marched in Chicago

Two of the five elements of Hip Hop were in full effect during the Takin' it to the Streets, a day-long Muslim-led festival featuring an array of arts, music, forums, and activities for everyone. The annual festival aims to bring the arts, spirituality, and a passion for justice together to inspire social change. The event brought a cross section of religious, political and ethnic communities for a day of music and harmony at the same place where Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was hit in the head by a rock while in Chicago protesting unfair housing practices in Chicago. Much love to IMAN and the entire staff and the 200 volunteers who worked, collectively, about 5,000 hours on the project. Special shout out to Ahlam Said who keeps me plugged into what going on. IMAN is a community-based nonprofit that works for social justice, delivers a range of direct services, and cultivates the arts in urban communities.
