Beyonce Partners with Show Your Helping Hand™ Campaign to Help Fight Hunger

Beyoncé and General Mills’ Hamburger Helper® invite fans in Chicago to help Feeding America deliver millions of meals CHICAGO (July 15, 2009)--As part of her U.S. “I AM…” Tour, Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and actress Beyoncé is partnering with General Mills’ Hamburger Helper® with the goal of helping Feeding America deliver more than 3.5 million meals to local food banks through the Show Your Helping Hand™ campaign.

Fans in Chicago can support the Show Your Helping Hand™ campaign in three ways:

Codes: Consumers can submit codes from specially marked boxes of Hamburger Helper® online at www.showyourhelpinghand.com through Dec. 31, 2010;

Food: Fans can contribute non-perishable food items at Beyoncé’s “I AM…” Tour concert on July 17, 2009 at the Beyoncé Experience tent located outside the United Center, 1901 West Madison Street, Chicago, IL 60612, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.;

Funds: Consumers can donate directly to Feeding America via www.showyourhelpinghand.com or text the word “SHOW” to 90999 to give a $5 gift through Jan. 1, 2010.* “Each one of us has the power to make a difference in our communities, so I’d like to encourage all of my fans in Chicago to get involved in the Show Your Helping Hand™ campaign,” said Beyoncé.

“Through my Survivor Foundation, I’ve been committed to helping families get back on their feet during difficult times, and now, more than ever, people are in need of our help. Please join me in helping Feeding America deliver millions of meals to local food banks.” According to Feeding America, hunger affects one in eight Americans, and the demand on local food banks has grown by more than 30 percent in the past year.

In Chicago, nearly 41.5 million pounds of food are distributed annually at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. “In the coming months, we expect the need for food to be even greater as children on summer break lose access to school meal programs. And for the rest of this year and beyond, the economy will continue to present serious challenges,” explained Vicki B. Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America. “By getting involved in the Show Your Helping Hand™ campaign, Americans can really make a difference in the fight against hunger.” As experts in the food industry, Hamburger Helper®, one of the largest brands in the General Mills portfolio, is proud to draw attention and resources to the critical issue of hunger in America.

“Knowing how much families are struggling during this economic downturn, there seemed no better time to launch the Show Your Helping Hand™ campaign,” said Beth Brady, Vice President at General Mills, the maker of Hamburger Helper®. “Partnering with Beyoncé for this important hunger-relief initiative is a wonderful opportunity for General Mills to deepen its long-standing commitment to supporting Feeding America. As Beyoncé takes the stage this summer on her ‘I AM…’ tour, we invite everyone to join us and Show Your Helping Hand™ in the fight against hunger.”

Fans can visit the Show Your Helping Hand™ Traveling Beyoncé Experience located at the United Center, 1901 West Madison Street, Chicago, IL 60612 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. to show their support for Feeding America. At the Traveling Beyoncé Experience, visitors can contribute non-perishable food items or donate $5 directly to Feeding America by texting the word “SHOW” to 90999 on their cell phones through Jan. 1, 2010.*

In addition, fans can get great giveaways and gain exclusive access to a multi-media tribute to Beyoncé’s philanthropic and career accomplishments.
